Empower Your Every Meal
Natural Yield Food Scanner is more than an app; it's your personal, private, and powerful guide to a healthier lifestyle. Make confident food choices, understand what you're eating like never before, and take control of your well-being.
Food Scanner does have its own website which we will be expanding.
Designed to be Eyesight Friendly from the Start
It is hard for many people to read ingredients, nutrition and country of origin information on labels. Food Producers are more interested in their sales pitch and hiding the important stuff. For people with poor eyesight it's almost impossible. The Food Scanner App was designed to be Eyesight Friendly at its inception. We use high contrast colours with large fonts as well as easy to use Microphone and Audio sounds and voice options.
Food Scanner App Availability
Food Scanner has been in development for 6 months and we are now in Alpha Testing stage, which is a release to a limited group of testers (mostly internal to Natural Yield).
We are planning on entering the Beta Testing stage in February 2026. You can register to become an Beta Tester via the form to the right.
What is Food Transparency?
Food transparency is the ability to track a food product and its ingredients throughout the supply chain, from production to distribution and retail sales.
We believe that food transparency is also concerned with understanding what ingredients are (exactly), how they were made, and ultimately addresses the consumers right to know. You can read more in our Food Transparency article.
Why is Food Transparency important?
Whether intentional or not food, packaging can be both deceptive and discriminatory.
Deceptive because packaging most often prioritises making the sale vs accurate information, and very often hides the information that you have the right to see.
Discriminatory because hard to read and ambiguous ingredient labels discriminate against vulnerable groups such as people with poor eyesight, food allergens and intolerances, and people on specific diets such as kosher, halal or FODMAP.
How does Food Scanner work?
We do our best to hide all the hard-stuff and present the user with a intuitive mobile app to use it.
In Store Example
In the most common use-case, a person is on a store, scans a barcode with Food Scanner, and up pops a screen with immediate information on ingredients, allergens, nutrition, country of origin, and health score. You can then get detailed information on each ingredient and nutrition item, compare prices in other stores, find alternatives, and generate recipes.
Plan Your Shop Example
At home you can use the Food Scanner app to create your shopping list, easily comparing options across stores, tailor which stores you want to buy from, group by store and food category so you have an efficient shop.
Other Questions People Ask
Why does Food Scanner Compare Prices?
We spend a lot of time getting all the other information about the product, so why not the price as well? This seemed like a natural extension to the app that will appeal to many people. It wasn't our initial priority, but it is very useful.
How do we keep it up-to-date?
We rely on both technology and people to keep the dataset up-to-date. Where we need people to help the most is helping us identify missing products or products with missing information. This is where our Food Scouts program comes in, and is an option for you to sign up for as well.
Why don't we also include independent stores like IGA?
We would love to but because they are independently owned and operated they can have very different products from store to store, which makes it a lot harder to keep up to date with their inventory. So, for now we are not focusing on them.
Even with the Aldi, Coles and Woolworths there are variations from store to store. e.g.. local egg farmers supply eggs to their local stores.
Why do we not support Apple iPhone yet?
We will. It is just easier to develop a product for Android first and then port it to Apple iPhone. We anticipate starting to do that between April and June 2026.
