1020 Reusable Silicone Microgreen Grow Mats – Eco-Friendly & Sustainable
Stop buying single-use substrates and switch to the cleanest way to grow microgreens.
The 1020 Reusable Silicone Microgreen Grow Mat is the ultimate solution for growers who prioritize hygiene, sustainability, and cost-efficiency. Specifically designed to fit standard 1020 Microgreen Trays (approx. 25.5cm x 50.7cm), these mats eliminate the mess of soil and the ongoing expense of hemp or coco coir.
Made from high-quality, food-grade silicone, these mats provide a totally inert, sterile surface for your seeds. Because they contain no organic matter, they are naturally resistant to mould spores, chemicals, and unknown minerals, giving you a professional-grade growing environment right at home.
Why Choose 1020 Silicone Microgreen Grow Mats?
-
- Cost-Effective & Sustainable: One mat can last up to 6 months (or 20+ grow cycles) with proper care, paying for itself in just a few harvests.
- Professional Cleanliness: Ideal for indoor growers who want a soil-free, “white-glove” setup. No more dirt or dust in your kitchen or grow room.
- Optimised for 1020 Trays: Pre-cut to fit the industry-standard 1020 tray perfectly, but can be easily trimmed with scissors for custom setups.
- Easy to Sanitise: Simply toss them in the dishwasher or use a prophylactic spray like Liquid Science Pure Guard for a deep clean between crops.
- Durable Design: Built with a reinforced core to prevent tearing while remaining flexible enough for easy handling and root removal.
Seed Compatibility & Performance
These mats excel with a wide range of popular microgreen varieties, including:
-
- Top Performers: Pea Tendrils, Radish, Broccoli, Arugula, Basil, Cabbage, Kohlrabi, and all Brassica varieties.
- Pro Tip for Small Seeds: When growing finer varieties like Amaranth or Mustard, place a sheet of Chux towel or paper towel between the mesh tray and the mat to prevent seeds from falling through.
- Note: Swiss Chard, Beets, and Cilantro can be more challenging on silicone and may require more advanced moisture management.
Growing for Success
At Natural Yield, as a rule, we do not use nutrients on microgreens. Most varieties don’t need it. They don’t cause harm but it is an additional cost in materials and process that we think is by-and-large unnecessary.
Growing on a silicon or hemp mat instead of media like coco coir means that you have have to be a lot more careful about watering – letting roots become dry for too long will kill the plant, swamping the plant with too much water will drown it and cause rot. Although this is also true when using media, the media itself provides a buffer against these risks. With silicon mats there is a lot less margin for error. This just means that you need to be on the ball with your watering.
